Fatma Mili

Welcome and thank you for your interest in the College of Computing and Informatics (CCI) at UNC Charlotte.

We live in the golden age of information technology (IT). IT is transforming every aspect of society – our homes, workplaces, communities, industries, and economy. Technology is no longer just a tool for productivity; it is now a driving force for innovation and a catalyst for social and economic transformation.

As the fastest growing college in the UNC system, the largest computing college in North Carolina, and one of the largest in the nation, CCI prides itself for being innovative in its research and education, inclusive in its design and operation, and responsive to the rapidly changing needs and ambitions of its constituencies.

The college is organized in three departments: Bioinformatics and Genomics, Computer Science, and Software and Information Systems with close to 100 faculty members and more than 130 Ph.D. students. The CCI faculty have a strong track record in innovative and strategically focused research with significant external funding and investment. Nationally renowned research centers initiated by CCI include the Complex Systems Institute, Robotics and Sensors for Human Well Being, the Bioinformatics Research Center, the CCI Center for Education Innovation, the Charlotte Visualization Center, the Cyber Defense and Network Assurability, and the Data Science Initiative. Nearly all of these efforts are multidisciplinary and some are multi-institutional, reflecting the integrative system approach.

The college offers academic programs at the bachelor, master and Ph.D. level. The design and delivery of these programs are guided by educational research and best practices and are governed by values of inclusivity and access for the community we serve. UNC Charlotte is a public, urban university with seven decades of symbiotic partnership with the City of Charlotte and the community at large. CCI graduates are recognized by leading employers as some of the top computing and bioinformatics talent available in the marketplace. Our students are the backbone of the largest talent pipeline in the Carolinas and CCI alumni has been a leading force in changing the diversity equation for women and underrepresented groups in computing. As soon as the Dean’s Alumni Council launched in 2016, they began with the monumental goal of changing lives by increasing equality and diversity through the first ever “Alumni Gives” scholarship for increasing the number of women in computing. CCI welcomes you to join us in our mission to spread the 49er spirit for innovation and success.

We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you on our beautiful UNC Charlotte campus.
