Mike Fresina joined UNC Charlotte's College of Computing and Informatics (CCI) in 2018 after more than 25 years as an educator, coach and communicator. Immediately following graduation from Davidson College, Fresina began teaching English at Charlotte Country Day School and working as a freelance writer while coaching football, basketball and lacrosse.
Leaving the classroom after seven years to write full time with Charlotte-based American City Business Journals (ACBI) and The Sporting News, Fresina rose through its ranks to become publisher of the country's largest motorsports media group, overseeing its weekly newspaper, monthly magazine and website. After 12 years, Fresina left ACBJ to start his own media consulting company, which included hosting a radio show on ESPN and a multi-year stint as an LPGA tournament director on the Symetra Tour.
When offered the opportunity to return to UNC Charlotte, where he spent a year as a student before transferring to Davidson, Fresina jumped at the chance to pay an overdue debt to the place he says taught him to, "love and appreciate school."
