Nov. 12 – Nov. 17, Assistant Professor, Dr. Erik Saule, attended SC17 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, CO. SC17 is the International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis. While at the conference, Dr. Saule spent his time chairing the High-Performance Computing for Undergraduate Students. This program selected 32 undergraduate students from several institutions in the U.S. and abroad to learn more about the opportunities and challenges that high performance computing brings to the world.

Because each of the students were carefully selected from different cultural backgrounds and institutions across the world, it encourages them to expand their minds and network with one another. It also encourages the students to network with professionals through casual conversation with experts in the field, career panels and the massive exhibition floor. The exhibition floor brings in over 8,000 attendees and is the trademark of SC.

Dr. Saule states, “the students were very engaged while at the conference. We have already heard of students going back to their institution and organizing other students to play with HPC tools. Hopefully they will compete in the Student Cluster Competition next year.”
