CCI Change of Major/Adding Minor Process

Students exploring majors, or those who are currently unable to declare the major, should work with the University Advising Center

Declaring a Computer Science Major:

  • Must have a 2.5+ GPA with 12+ earned credit hours at UNC Charlotte
  • Must have completed and earned a grade of C or higher in a calculus course
    • MATH 1120 for the Bachelor of Arts
    • MATH 1241 for the Bachelor of Science
  • Must have completed and earned a grade of C or higher in a foundational computing course:
    • ITSC 1212
    • ITSC 1110
    • DTSC 1302
    • ENGR 1302
    • ECGR 2103
    • Note: While any of these are acceptable for entry to the major, you may need to take ITSC 1212 and earn a C or higher to complete major requirements or prerequisites

Students who meet the criteria above can complete this form to declare the Computer Science major: Change of Major Request Form 

Declaring an Artificial Intelligence Major:

  • Must have a 2.5+ GPA with 12+ earned credit hours at UNC Charlotte
  • Must have completed and earned a grade of C or higher in MATH 1241
  • Must have completed and earned a grade of C or higher in a foundational computing course:
    • ITSC 1212
    • ITSC 1110
    • DTSC 1302
    • ENGR 1302
    • ECGR 2103
    • Note: While any of these are acceptable for entry to the major, you may need to take ITSC 1212 and earn a C or higher to complete major requirements or prerequisites 

Students who meet the criteria above can complete this form to declare the Artificial Intelligence major: Change of Major Request Form

Current CCI students who wish to change to the Artificial Intelligence major can complete this form to declare: Change of Major Request Form

Declaring the Online BA in Computer Science:

  • Must have a 2.5+ GPA with 12+ earned credit hours at UNC Charlotte
  • Must have completed and earned a grade of C or higher in MATH 1120 or MATH 1241
  • Must have completed and earned a grade of C or higher in a foundational computing course:
    • ITSC 1212
    • ITSC 1110
    • DTSC 1302
    • ENGR 1302
    • ECGR 2103
    • Note: While any of these are acceptable for entry to the major, you may need to take ITSC 1212 and earn a C or higher to complete major requirements or prerequisites 

Students who meet the criteria above can complete this form to declare the Computer Science major: Change of Major Request Form

Current CCI students who wish to change to the Artificial Intelligence major can complete this form to declare: Change of Major Request Form

Declaring a Data Science or Sports Analytics Major:

  • Must have a 2.0+ GPA and be in Good Academic Standing

Declaring a CCI Minor:

  • Must have a 2.0+ GPA and be in Good Academic Standing
  • Note: Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence majors are not eligible to declare a CCI minor. The only exception is for those pursuing a concentration or minor in Bioinformatics.
