Hey Siri, did my dad take his medicine?

UNC Charlotte AI tech breaks ground, bridges oceans in real-time health care analysis.
For adult children, ensuring the safety and health of their older parents and loved ones is a major challenge, especially when separated by large distances. Srijan Das, an assistant professor of computer science at UNC Charlotte, led the effort to develop the new AI model LLAVIDAL (Large Language Vision Model for Daily Activities of Living) to address this issue years after his elderly father in India fell ill while Das lived in the United States.
LLAVIDAL was designed to analyze video data to track health behaviors with high precision. Das aims to help older adults, like his parents in India, live healthier lives and reassure distant children. With this tech as a foundation, Das and his collaborators envision the creation of an in-home recording system that monitors residents’ daily activities and provides detailed health information through an AI assistant, bridging the gap created by physical distance.
