Department of Bioinformatics and Genomics

The Department of Bioinformatics and Genomics is committed to the development and utilization of novel computational approaches to help solve important biological problems, and to provide training in the science and technology that underlies them.

Academic programs are offered for undergraduates and graduates in life science fields, as well as computational and quantitative fields. UNC Charlotte offers interactive courses with labs to instill critical thinking and apply scientific concepts.

The Department also operates a Bioinformatics Services Division on the North Carolina Research Campus, a billion-dollar, 350-acre research park in nearby Kannapolis. The focus of this group is the development and application of novel analytical methods for knowledge discovery involving large biological datasets.
