Farah Tokmic

Farah Tokmic is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Software and Information Systems at UNC Charlotte. Her research interests lie in the emerging field of Computational Social Science using behavioral data to analyze human activity and identify behavioral patterns among groups of people. Her doctoral dissertation was in the area of designing a stigma index model that allows decision and policy makers to understand the prevalence of stigma towards individuals with behavioral health disorders. Farah’s motivation to pursue an academic career stems from her desire to make a positive impact on students’ lives and give them hope to reach success.

As a postdoctoral research fellow on the Connected Learner Project, she plans to apply her PhD work to the interdisciplinary field of CS education research and use data science applications to study student performance and retention rates in CS programs. Prior to completing her Ph.D in Software and Information Systems at UNC Charlotte, Farah completed a MA in Medical Sciences at Boston University in 2011 and a BSc in Molecular Environmental Biology at the University of California, Berkeley in 2010.
